Skincare Essentials for Winter
Winter is one of our favorite seasons. It is the time of the year when you can flaunt your winter woollies, take those refreshing warm showers and of course, curl up by a bonfire.
While there are countless reasons to love winter, there is probably one that makes us love it a little less. You guessed it right. It is the damage it does to our skin. From dry, flaky and itchy skin to chapped lips, winter takes a huge toll on our skin. Isn’t it so?
But, there are ways to save our skin from the havoc that the cold weather plays on it. These include some simple skincare essentials which if followed religiously is sure to keep your skin glowing even during the not so skin-friendly months. These are:
- Keep yourself hydrated
Hydrate, Hydrate and Hydrate! We cannot stress enough on this point. It goes without saying that Hydration is the key. After cleansing your face of all the dead skin and dirt, make sure to apply an adequate amount of moisturiser preferably the one which is water based to prevent your skin from drying.
Pro tip: Apply the moisturiser on a damp skin. This helps the moisturiser to act as a sealant which not only moisturises the skin but also retains the skin’s natural moisture.
- Exfoliate your lips
While we would recommend not over exfoliating your body skin during winter, exfoliating the lips is something that we swear by. Let’s accept it, chapped lips can be both uncomfortable and embarrassing. Hence, we recommend exfoliating it with sugar and applying lip balms with SPF on regular intervals. - Opt for Winter Revitalise Sets
Winter Revitalise Sets are especially formulated to give your skin and hair the extra boost of hydration. Available in two separate sets for people aged above 40 years and below 40 years, these sets contain powerful combination of Ra Supplements; Ra Anagen, Ra Defence, Ra Skin Hydrate and Ra Primerose+. - Follow a healthy diet
Winter is not about taking care of your skin from the outside but also from within. It is the season of fresh veggies and dry fruits. Embrace all of them in your diet to get the right nutrition which will not only keep you healthy but also help your skin glow from within. - Don’t forget the SPF
Just because the sun becomes your friend to escape the chilly breezes, it does not mean it becomes any less harmful. Sunscreen is a must even in winter months to protect our skin from the skin damaging UV rays. Please don’t forget to apply it before stepping out. - Avoid hot showers
Those long hot showers might seem tempting but warm water tends to remove the natural oils from the skin and makes it dry and rough. We aren’t saying to switch to cold water. All we are saying is that lowering the temperature of shower water to lukewarm may not be a bad idea.Pro tip: Switch to shower oil from shower gel
As a bonus, we have a few steps recommended by Ra Creator and a Celebrity Dermatologist, Dr. Rashmi Shetty to keep your skin hydrated when the mercury drops:
Step 1: Wash your face, neck, hands and feet with warm water.
Step 2: Invest in a moisturiser which suits your skin type best and massage it on your face for 5mins in small circular movements.
Step 3: Take a warm wet towel and put it on your face for 2-3 minutes. This helps the skin to open up to receive the moisture well.
Step 4: Post this you can apply a moisturising mask, if you have one or simply wash your face with yet another bout of warm water and then apply your day or night cream.
Remember to follow these steps daily to ensure your skin retains moisture effectively.
